My diamond v770 tnt2 for some reason doesn't get detected and obviously
this is a problem when X configuration happens. Is there some device
module I need or something?
Truecolor on the nVidia driver is 32 bit. The 3.3.6 _SVGA server will
work nicely at that depth.

Or installed the nvidia-kernel-src and nvidia-glx packages in unstable.

I think that this driver does not support 24 bpp
I think you should put 16 bpp in your XF86config file
