Thanks for the answers. I should kick myself for not trying that, but I
was blindsided by thinking that the module was loaded in the kernel based
on the kernel config file.
Now I can get back to the printing problem - xpdq works, but lprngtool
doesn't.

Try a modprobe 3c905x I think and then if that seems to take try insmod 3c905x
and then ifconfig eth0 up.
