The following message is a courtesy copy of an article
that has been posted to comp.os.linux.alpha,comp.windows.x.kde as well.
Thanks to all who sent in help. The fix to the problem was
to delete the character string ",yp" from the file "/etc/svc.conf"
that was installed by the Compaq package.
Hi,
I upgraded my unstable installation with dselect last night and
Netscape 4.7 has stopped working. The message is:
"Bus error"
and all I get is a lockfile in /home/.netscape and no GUI.
What might have caused this, and how can I fix it?

iirc, fortify must be pointed to the executable file 'netscape' whose

Has anyone got Fortify work with Netscape 4.7?
I have a navigator-smotif package installed and get the following when
I try to fortyfy the binary:

/usr/lib/netscape/47/navigator/navigator-smotif.real

Hello Alice,
to install/run netscape 4.7 from the downloaded tar.gz file you don't need
any of the Debian netscape packages. Here are the steps I did to install
it on my machine:
1. copy the netscape 4.7 tar.gz file to /tmp
2. unpack the file: cd /tmp; tar xvzf netscape 4.7 tar.gz

There was an article some days ago on LinuxToday or Slashdot (not sure)
about the latest version
I want to upgrade my browser. Should I try mozilla or netscape 4.7 ?
Perhaps I would do better if I'll keep my current 4.06 ?
I am using potato.

Usually netscape asks which directory you want it to download to. Just choose

Hi,
I wonder if somebody has found how to recover files downloaded
(especially from ftp) in the netscape cache?
(these files which are printed to the screen while dowload them)
The only way I found is to watch the modification time of the
cache directories, and recover the last file, with a scrub
