No. mplayer-586 is a dummy package.
I did a etch upgrade today -- went reasonably smoothly.
I have mplayer-586 installed and it works fine. But, during the
upgrade I lost mozilla-mplayer so can no longer play media in the web
browser.
Trying to install mozilla-player I get:

Using the mplayer plugin for mozilla I listen to a fm radio station on
line. The sound is fine but mplayer occupies a large gray window. When
my daughter who is still wedded to windows listens to this station on
line there is a continually changing light show in the window as the
music plays.

Tried reinstalling mozilla and reinstalling mozilla-mplayer but it did
not help.
Mozilla reports mplayer-in 3.21 enabled for Windows Media as well as for
Quicktime, RealPlayer and Google VLC multimedia.

Hello,
If I click on a video link, mozilla mplayer plugin shows that it is
downloading the file but doesn't really play anything. After the
download is complete, it tells as much and then it either doesn't do
anything or just prints "Stopped" message in the mplayer window

Hi,
One of the hardest things to give up when I stopped using
windows, was the various movie trailer sites. I am a complete
cinema junkie. I love them.
I finally found mplayer-mozilla at one of the sites listed at
