Run the following commands as root:
modprobe mousedev
modprobe psmouse
If you added the lines
mousedev
psmouse
to /etc/modules then the respective modules will be loaded at boot time.

15 inch screen
ATI Radeon mobility graphics card 32 MB
Trident sound card
The problem is that the mousepad stops working along with the sound
card.
I cheched lsmod. It shows mousedev but it is not used.
