Are you sure you are on your local disk? This looks just like
/usr/src or /usr/src/linux is a symlink to an NFS mounted filesystem
and you are root which has no permission there.

I have to recompile my kernel because I will be moving my hdd to antoher
machine that uses a different chipset but when I issue the "make'kpkg clean"
(as root) command, I get the following error:
kompi:/usr/src/linux# make-kpkg clean
Permission denied.
