Well, since you posted this to a Debian list, I'm assuming you're runnind
debian. If this is true:
apt-get install tetex-bin
The latex binary provided therein supports latex2e.

# apt-get install textex-base tetex-bin tetex-extra
The tetex packages are based on LaTeX 2e. The extra packages contains the
AMS LaTeX style files useful for doin

according to them it does not go with the package. I really need the
