Hello :-)
I have debian testing on my new dell laptop, it has a number of
specialkeys, play/pause, stop, forward and so on... I have made them
useful with lineakd and it works, sort of... When i press one of the
keys they are very sensitive and the result is that if I press play 5-7

I have a laptop where if I started gpm or xdm under kernel 2.4.9, the
keyboard and mouse would stop working.
Thanks to Leonard Evens <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, I found out that the kernel
yenta stuff grabs IRQ 12 for the pcmcia cardbus controller where my mouse
is. Adding append="pci=irqmask=0xafff" to

Well, I guess we're even: I never knew somebody could be so stupid as
to think that a list called debian-user wasn't specifically for Debian.
Que sera sera.

You're right; it's named "debian-user" for no apparent reason
whatsoever.
* plonk *
Don't Cc: me on list mails, I get them already. Thanks

Debconf problems sounds like an artifact of the perl 5.6 transistion.
Making sure that my perl was upgraded to 5.6 would be my first step.

If connectiva is so great, why are you trolling other distro's user lists
to get users? It has been my experience that the more I'm pushed into
using a given thing, the more I'd HAVE to be pushed because it doesn't
stack up on technical merits. Now go away.

Oh. you can use English Spanish or Portugese to install. The irc
channel at openprojects #conectiva is great for help. The install is slick
too. Almost forgot that.

HeHe, can't resist.
That is what you get for running Debian..
Try Conectiva. None of the stupid Stable, unstable, etc weirdness.
Just Conectiva 6 updated daily,
Have fun.

This is one of the things that has driven be buggy about Debian. Of three
attempted installations on my home machine, an old HP Vectra VL and a
Toshiba 430CDT portable, only the Vectra presented a successful installation.
I had the problem quoted below on the 430CDT after the base installation.

Turn it back on now, and see if it boots from hard disk with the cache on.
I just installed bo on a Fujitsu Lifebook 535Tx. It's working, but there are
a couple of glitches I'd like to solve.
Initially, I couldn't get Linux to load from the boot floppy (or anywhere
else). At first I thought this had to do with shadow RAM, since the
installation instructions say to disa
