If you want to run Debian, install Debian from the get go. Knoppix->Debian or
Ubuntu->Debian are not supported and will consume a lot of time in the end.
Your best bet (in terms of time) is to reinstall Debian from the scratch.

I took what appears to be an unwise shortcut and installed Knoppix on
the harddrive of a spare laptop. It now appears that some portion of
what is installed is in german. Is there an easy way to either fix my
installation or reinstall in English?

I am running 2.6.3-2 kernel, unstable. I started with a Knoppix HD-install.
Knoppix still does the boot-hardware-detection and se

The following procedure worked for me when I downgraded from unstable to
testing about a year ago, you might want back up first :-) As I recall,
I was following

Semantically no, since sarge would be a sort-of downgrade.

I've only done it to sid, which I can confirm is possible. I think some of
knoppix is unstable, so there could be some problems getting back to sarge.
Hello,
an anyone tell me if is possible to use apt to upgrade to sarge from
knoppix?
Thanks.
Gavin.

Well, libparted1.6-0 needs a recent libc6, and therefore
this the end of the qtparted story: I don't dare
to upgrade libc6 :-(

I would like to know how "Debian" is "Knoppix";
i.e. if Knoppix uses many costumized packages or not.
I am not using Knoppix myself. But, I would like to
encourage my "You-Know-What-Os" users to try Knoppix.
