Hello, there.
I noticed a strange thing: I use LUKS to encrypt my system, so it asks
me the passphrase at boot. As a bépo (a French Dvorak-like keymap)
user, I configured it, using Gnome preferences panel, on the gdm login
screen, as the only available keymap.
I noticed that, when aptitude runs,

I'm using the Xfce desktop environment on Debian jessie. The keyboard
is plugged into a KVM switch which issues a USB disconnect if I switch
to another machine. Once I switch back, the USB connection comes back
again, but the keyboard settings are gone. This affects both the

Keyboard settings. If I toggle it off, and then back on, it resets it to
repeat.
Any idea what is causing this?

Have you run tasksel and selected the laptop option yet? If not doing
that may make life a little better. I just got a Dell latitude c810 last
night with no operating system on it and I'm going to put a form of Debian
Linux on it. So this is something close to my first exposure to laptops.

how can I do that ?
I've searched and found that this could be done in
/etc/default/console-setup :
XKBMODEL=""
XKBLAYOUT="es"
XKBVARIANT="nodeadkeys"
XKBOPTIONS="lv3:ralt_switch"
or /etc/X11/xorg.conf :

Hello all. I am stuggleing to get my keyboard set up to work in X and
on the console consistantly. Basically, I would like the Backspace
key (above enter) to cause the previous character to be erased and the
delete key (to the right of enter) to erase the chara
