Hi,
For some months I have been trying to compile kernels from 2.4.5 to 2.4.8,
but I still get the same errors and they does not seem to be solved in
later versions. Today I build a new config file from scratch, but still
unsuccesfull. The errors occur in the beginning of the compile and are

I am setting up a Dell PowerEdge 1300, PIII/500 machine for a server. It

And there it stops. It boots fine off of a 2.0.38 kernel from the in

I'd suggest using gcc2.7.2 to compile kernels older than 2.2.14. There's
a debianized package for it "gcc272". Just change the HOSTCC and CC from
gcc to gcc272 in the Makefile.

I just had the exact same problem symptoms (including the failed retry with
specific arch) as you a few days ago, but with a 2.2 kernel build.
Hi!
I need a custom kernel for ide-scsi-emulation, 3 ethernet-cards and so on.
I´ve grabbed the "kernsel-source-2.0.38"-package, untgz´ed it to
/usr/src/kernel-source-2.0.38, cd !$, make menuconfig, make-kpkg
--revision=custom.1.0 kernel_image, but make-kpkg fails with the following
output:

Don't do that. Linux kernels are numbered so that if the second
digit is even (like 0 or 2) it's a "production" kernel meant for
actual work. If it's an odd number (like 1) it's meant for testing
only.
So you upgraded from a functional even-minor-versi
Hey everyone,
I upgraded my kernel from 2.0.36 to 2.1. Unfortunately, can no longer
get on the internet. When I type 'pon', it gives me a long message
on that /usr/sbin/pppd won't work, because my kernel lacks PPP support (or the
module is not loaded). I'm pretty sure I have PPP built i
