try the package : kernel-package
it makes all automaticaly.
else : perhaps you need the package bin86

Trying to compile sound support into a kernel (2.0.36), i am getting the
following error messages:
after `make zImage`
make[1] as86 command not found
make [1] ***[bootsect.o] Error 127
make[1] Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux/arc/i386/bo
