There must be a trick to this. I just installed kernel 2.2.0-pre6. modutils doesn't insert anything; depmod -a says [5:50pm] [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# depmod -a can't open /lib/modules/2.2.0-pre6/modules.dep which is because the modules are in /lib/modules/2.2.0 instead. Hamish -- Hamish Moffatt VK
