Hi,
System: Debian 1.3/kernel 2.0.30/pcmcia 3com 562D/563G card
My goal is to recompile the kernel2.0.30 in order to solve some bug
with pcmcia.(see below for the error message at boot time)
I have installed pcmcia-source_2.9.6-3, same for pcmcia-cs and
pcmcia-modules. Also kernel
In order to build 2.0.30, I had to:
ln /usr/lib/gcc-lin/i486-linux/2.7.2.1/include/stddef.h \
/usr/include/stddef.h
and likewise stdarg.h prior to make dep. In addition, neither make
xconfig nor make menuconfig would work (a minor inconvenience) and I had
to run make config three times. I'd had
Hi,
Installing a kernel image package just puts a kernel image in
boot, symlinks to /vmlinuz, and offers t run Lilo.
Whether you get the new version on next bootup depends on
whether your bootup process is aware that you upgraded. If you use
LILO, did you (after checking /etc/

Did you run lilo?

Hi,
I have installed a package kernel-image-2.0.30deb to upgrade
from 2.0.27. I used dpkg -i .deb. All went well. After a
reboot, the system still says it has the old kernel (uname -r).
Should I say "switchkernel" or something ??
Regards,
Marc

Please, help me with clarifying a boot problem.
I have upgraded from Debian 1.2.17 to Debian 1.3.1, and the machine
will not boot. I have recompiled the kernel 2.0.30 and rebooted the machine
again. Now it hangs, but then finally boots.
This is dmesg with a troubled hda disk

You are right!

Hi,
I think the problem isn't related with 2.0.30, since I use it with
IP masq. enabled without any problem for two subnets of win3.x, Linux, and
win95.

ipfwadm -F -a m -S ${NETWORK1}/24 -D 0.0.0
This sounds like a completely different problem to me. Are those
libraries listed in /etc/ld.so.conf? Have you tried running ldconfig -v
as root?

I have been having trouble with X not being able to load the libraries it
needs. In particular, 9wm complains about not being able to load
libXaw.so.6 and xmix about libXext.so.6. I know these files are in
/usr/X11R6/lib (I pasted them from there) with read and execute permission
for everyone.
After compiling a new kernel for my debian 1.3 system, I've run into a
little problem. At least I think the new kernel is to blame as this is
the only thing to have changed recently.
First, I use IP masquerading so my networked NT 4.0 box can access the
internet. I've made a little rc.d script
Hi! Does anyone know, if there's a .deb-packet of iBCS that is compiled
for kernel 2.0.30? I've installed Debian 1.3 (frozen) from mirror at
ftp.funet.fi, and when i try to install iBCS i get this:
atuki_linux# modprobe iBCS
/lib/modules/misc/iBCS: kernel-module version mismatch
