Thanks guys but I had an ace in my pocket after all. As soon as I had
sent this mail using IE mail, I booted to linux and to continue my
installation. After browsing all those .deb files I noticed that I had
pppconfig. Cool utility! Once again my Linux box was online.
Thanks for these mails.

Hi,
Does your chatscript contain "noauth" ? The hamm pppd package
has "auth" enabled in the default /etc/ppp/options file, and for most
ISPs it must be disabled either in the options file or in the
chatscript. Does your ISP use PAP? If so look at
/usr/doc/ppp/README.debian.gz for guidance.
First, take a deep breath. Second, give us as much info on your setup
as possible -- pap/chap/manual? Try adding a "debug" statement to your
provider script. Paste your scripts (sans password). We need more
info.
