because of the mouse doesn't work after starting X-Windows by startx,
I tried to reconfigure the repeater-function of gpm.
So I've got after starting gpmconfig:
Current configuration: -m /dev/psaux -t ps2 -Rms3
Do you want to change anything: y
Where is your mouse [/dev/psaux]?
I can't get gpm to recognize my mouse! It's a _REALLY_ old model, a Microsoft
Inport mouse. How do I use this with gpm?

You need to install libgpm1 package.
I installed gpm_1.10-2.deb and the installation script went into the
configuration mode. After answering the configuration questions, it asked
if I wanted to change anything and I answered no. Then it said:
Starting gpm
At that point the console hangs and nothing happens. ps -ax shows several

You can run "gpmconfig" as root, and it will ask you all the relevant
questions.

That would be in the /etc/gpm.conf which is read by /etc/init.d/gpm script
at boot time.
