Hi all.
gnome-apt and freeamp seem to have dropped out of testing for the time
being. Has anyone who is running woody tried using dpkg to install
either of these from sid or are there dependency problems? I guess I
could live without themjust wondering though.
Thanks,

Hi!
I'm using gnome-apt from the potato release in conjunction with a CD
set. After having selected the packages to install and confirmed
everything and having inserted the request CD I get many messages telling
me that I've inserted the wrong CD. Actually, there should be a dialog

So, does that mean apt-get's cache is shared with dpkg then? I thought
they were separate, due to the apt-cache program. I'm a

Hi,
I install Gnome 1.x yesterday and every everything went alright except for
gnome-apt. Dpkg told me that I need the "libapt-pkg2.6" package (which isn't
installed on my system), but I could NOT find this "libapt-pkg2.6" package
anywhere, keep in mind that I have a Slin
Where is libapt-pkg2.5? I can't find it anywhere. I've tried different

gnome-apt depends on libapt-pkg2.5
libapt-pkg2.5 does not appear to be available
Why is it so hard to find the GNOME APT source?
It would be great to have an up-to-date list of APT sources on www.debian.org!
Anyway where can I find the GNOME APT source and is it the October release?
Regards.

The latest version of gnome-apt is not compatible with the rest of
the potato libraries. Is there a newer ? > 0.3.4

The latest console-apt has changed the dependency to libapt-pkg2.6.
This isn't there either, but is provided by apt 0.3.12, so it will
unstall. Unfortunately gnome-apt in potato still has the dependency for
libapt-pkg2.5.
You should probably file a bug report on this against gnome-apt.

I tried "apt-get install bb" and then "apt-get remove bb". It worked.
Then I tried the same thing with gnome-apt.

Where do I get a working version gnome-apt ?
Since about one month when selecting "Complete run" apt prints
Start
Stop
to the console but does not do anything. It shows the progress
window for about half a second so I can read nothing.

Get the source for a later version of APT and build it yourself.
(dpkg-source -x ; cd apt-0.
Does anyone have a .deb for gnome-apt that runs in slink (ie, glibc2.0)?

Yes, there is sudo.
or, I think, you can (in a Xterm )

export XAUTHORITY=/home/user/.Xauthority
gnome-apt
It should work but I've not tried.

No, installing packages requires root permissions. gnome-apt might let you
do package selections as a regular user eventually, but you'll always have
to be root to actually install.

Is it possible to arrange for gnome-apt to be usable by a non-root user?
To run it as root I have to mess about with X authorization and even
once that is done my GTK themes aren't respected. I guess my question
can be broken down as follows (and an answer to either part would be
enough)
What do the kept and the held flag mean ?
What's going to arrive if I do
# dpkg --purge -a
?

You can mix and match dselect and dpkg.
So you
in the distribution. Maybe I'm just lazy, or
because I don't find dselect's interface to be *that* bad, but I
prefer dselect with apt as the access method, over dpkg's command
line. Then again, different strokes for different folks.
