Wasn't very careful when i posted the esd problem - didn't enable the esound plugins in xmms and realplay. just great... now i got that fixed by enabling them. sorry for the silly post... anyway, are there any more packages that are compatible with esd? afaik, there are some programs

My previous post was about multithreading sounds, and what was needed was to install esd. so i installed esd. however, the problem still remains. running esd would lock /dev/dsp. i can't seem to make esd a background process that won't lock the sound device to any other process requesting for the

So I'm running EsounD with gdm so that it starts up for all the local logins through gdm (because I have a quasi-shared machine...everyone on my floor is free to log in). Weird thing is that I installed the "esd &" line in the system initfile for gdm, but only the first user to log in ever
