Try iso-accents-mode. (M-x iso-accents-mode) Then you can type 'a ->
á, "o -> ö etc...

Do `M-x iso-accents-mode' to use key combinations for lots of foreign
characters. Have a look at

Cutting and pasting from netscape works fine, but not quite what I had
in mind ;-).
