Copy current config to .config
make menuconfig to configure
make-kpkg for compile
dpkg -i for install

framebuffer support can't be used as a module, and must be compiled in
the kernel to be used.

i was very happy the other day when i installed my newest machine and
got a penguin logo as soon as i rebooted. :)
