D-Select will ONLY install Debian packages (.deb). The Kernel upgrades are source code (compressed into a tgz). To install : download the latest kernel from ftp.kernel.org - ftp://ftp.uk.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.2/linux-2.2.1.tar.gz should get it. copy it into the /usr/src directory. Use GZ
