I reinstalled debian and doesn't appears anymore, but I don't know why.

Actually I want DMA enabled and by switching DMA off I would like to see if there still appears some errors, but I think a better ideea is to check with smartctl.
I use the latest kernel 2.6.17.13 and I have ATIIXP chipset.

enter the BIOS it shows that the HDD is set to dma mode 5 so maybe I
