I installed microcom and like it as it is very similar to
the functionality I had with ckermit.
I briefly thought of compiling from source but laziness
got the better of me and I am happy with microcom.
Expect is what I am using for scripting so I just took my

buster is that the package known as ckermit has fallen beside the
road.
I had a hard-drive fail on one system so installed buster
from installation media and the ckermit package apparently isn't
part of the distribution any

Hello.
When I start the kermit program (ckermit package in Debian) it takes
about 5 seconds to come up. Strace shows that it does a lot of lookups
I might not need.

noticed this when I used ckermit a few years ago.
Thanks,

f I download the ckermit debian package from
ftp://kermit.columbia.edu/kermit/bin/cku209.linux-i386-db3.0
how would i install it in debian??
This looks like an executable binary. You can just download it, make it
executable (with a file manager or on the console with 'chmod 755
/path/to/file'.

I assume that it was removed from frozen due to outstanding bugs that were
not fixed before the freeze but should be back at some point.
Apparently ckermit is no longer provided - I believe it used to be in
either non-free or contrib. Why is this?
