I'd try and use ATA if possible. ATAPI doesn't use DMA so you're more
prone to making coasters. See if "cdrecord -sca

I just posted concerning cdrecord problems, wich I got help solving.
Still, solving one made me discover another problem.
Using cdrecord from commandline, I can burn cd's untill I have tried
to open k3b once. The k3b-splashimage hangs on 'Searching for
devices'. If I try 'cdrecord -scanbu
