I have also found it advantageous to create a grub boot floppy. You
can then select among kernels or fiddle with the bootloader
configuration actually in the course of a boot.
If you do have a running system, then simply have root visit grub's
working directory and copy the two stage file

Might it be the initrd issue? You seem to be using a prebuilt kernel
which uses initrd. I just tried mkboot with a 2.4.17 kernel, and it
works just fine.
Try examing the lilo.conf file on the floppy to see if there is an
appropriate initrd line.

During a floppy installation, you boot with the rescue floppy and will
be prompted to install the root floppy and later the driver floppy or
floppies. vanilla has a lot more drivers available and therefore
requires more disks. The kernel-config files list which drivers are
included in each flavor

conflicts with tetex-base and so if I keep it all the tetex things are

When you see the LILO prompt (this is booting from the HD) hit the
key the the key. You'll now see a list to choose from.
Just type in the name of the one you want to boot. The default is just
whatever comes first in /etc/lilo.conf *if* you don't have a default
specification. Check out 'man li

hmm there is a libc6-pic and ncurses 3.4-pic, but as I have no idea what
those are for, the answer to yer question is: I don't know :)
