My PC hangs as soon as I boot from the rescue-floppy, created with
rawrite2
As soon as I hit the -key for booting it shows the message
'booting...', followed by 'boot failed change disk and press a key to
continue'
adding parameters (linux mca aic7xxx mono etc) makes no difference.
It is quite likely your disk really is bad. Will it format in DOS?
Bad disks actually seem to be more common than you might think. Could
also be a disk drive problem.

I got this collection of errors trying to install Debian 1.1 until I
changed my controller (Adaptec AHA 1542 A) which had firmware circa
1988. I suspect nobody else keeps superanuated hardware around as long
as I do, but it is worth thinking about if you hardware has any age on
it.
