I just tried to install the aforementioned version of Apache I found in /bo,
but it does not copy a file called /etc/apache/srm.conf Apparently this
file is important, because the server cannot start. It tried to open it and
fopen fails, then the service start fails.
Is there a newer version tha

i think i found a bug in apache 1.1.1-[56]. when upgrading from 1.0.5
to 1.1.1 /usr/lib/httpd is created with the wrong owner:
drwxr-x--- 4 root root 1024 Oct 5 18:10 httpd/
as a consequence the httpd server cannot read any of the
subdirectories (cgi-bin, icons). shouldn't
dules/mod_proxy.so doesn't want to load in
apache-1.1.1-3. unfortunately i don't really have a lot of time to
look into this (trying to graduate, i guess), so i just went back to
1.0.5. if anybody would care to investigate this further i would
appreciate it. thanks.

Please note that the 1.1.1 apache package, which will be on Debian archives
as soon as transferred from chiark, still installs in /var/web and don't
take www-data into account. The next release will use www-data correctly,
run the server under www-data.www-data identity if wanted, but I did
