Hi,
I have some problems with my X. It crashes. It worked fine until yesterday and I did
nothing :). Except running apt-get update, apt-get upgrade. I'm running unstable.
Anybody have an idea, what's wrong. I have checked my memory with memtest86 and it ok.
Here is the X log.

I ran into the "NO SCREEN FOUND" problem with Xfree86 when installing
Debian with my Hercules Prophet II MX 32meg Video card (Nvidia). The
only workaround I found was to disable the framebuffer device at install
after the card was probed.

Thanks Jaye! It works now!
One more question: I've read some articles in tomshardware web
site and one of the performance measurement software they use is quake.
They report FPS rate for the tested hardware.
Do you know how to use quake for Linux to do that? Is it
possible?
Mario,
This looks pretty much like what I get starting quake. The thing I have to
look out for is starting it in kde. Kde has artsd running and locks the sound
card until it times out. Pause/stop the artsd and it should work a little
faster.

Hi,
I'm trying to get quake-x11 running but w/o luck to now.
I have apt-installed quake-x11 with all its dependencies but
whenever I try to start it I get:

CTRL-ALT-F1 should get you to a character terminal even
with X installed. There you will be able to sign on.
The problem has to do with shadow passwords. Something to
do with needing to with needing to use xdm-shadow instead
of xdm.

You can always type Ctl-Alt-F1 to get to a regular console. I don't know,
however, if that will fix your problems.

This is a known problem, I believe. Check the info under the
disks-i386 directory -- I think there is a file in there that mentions
this.
FYI, you should try this, as root on the console:

I selected to have X11 coming up automatically on start-up. However, I

Hello all;
Recently, I downloaded and installed Debian Rex. This was about 4 days ago.
The installation seems to go Ok. Whenever I try to start X using "startx"
it seems to start ok but the mouse pointer for some reason always moves
to the lower left hand corner of the screen and stays there

Hello,
I have once again tried to install the debian distribution and
I have once again failed to get X11 running. This time with
a Hercules Stingray Pro and the SVGA server.
The monitor gets black and after CTRL-ALT-F4 I get:
TRANS(SocketUNIXConnect) () can't connect: errno = 111
giving up.
