Thank you fpr your reply! We've found the PCI-versions of the VGA card
ATI Mach64 GT (Rage II) (rev. 154),"ATI 3D-Charger 2MB" in the most
of the other of 12 PCs, which run fine. Just the AGP version
doesn't, but we can live with it.

For an ATI Mach64 3D RAGE II C, I use:
ChipId 0x4755
and it seems to work, more or less.
I found this in the XFree86 FAQ.

more time repeated windows. The README.Mach64 file was
helpful, but not to the end.
