This may not be a question for this list since it concerns KDE, but...
OK, I've set up my client Linux with SAMBA and it works fine. No
problems there. But I discovered that Konqueror does not see the
network. When I click on the Local Network folder I get the error:
"Protocol not supported

I've had to do this several times myself. Option 2 is NOT viable.
Mounting smb shares and then resharing them out as NFS causes no end of
problems. File locks don't work right, sometimes the NFS clients won't
see all the files in the share, it's just ugly (and I believe the samba
docs say NOT to
