I solved the problem.
since the dav is enabled within a directory of a virtualhost,
you need to add a user to the htpasswd file like this:
htpasswd /some/userfile [virtualhost-domain]\\[user]
in my case this would be
htpasswd /etc/httpd/conf/davauth vbzedelgem-dorp.be\\koen

I'm trying to set up WebDAV for file sharing between our 2 departments,
In Windows XP (problably everything else too) I'm getting the authentication
window where I can fill in user and password. Everytime I enter it, it
gets rejected.
