Your most pressing problem seems to be the "symbol _dl_out_of_memory"
issue, which blocks the libc6 upgrade. The BTS suggests that it is
possible to work around this problem by removing /lib/tls/* and then
continuing the upgrade. You can find further details in this bug report:

It's possible to upgrade from etch to sid if you upgrade libc6 to the
version in testing. You may need to upgrade a couple of other things
along with it; I'm not certain.

I would also know where I should read if that situation with the sid

I guess they don't, but you could install

Hi
I tried to upgrade my debian (potato, with kernel 2.2.19) to unstable using apt,
after editing sources.list. Howver the process stoped reporting errors of
unmet dependencies . So I tried to do "atp-get -f install" as suggested but
even this bails out with the error message :

Like the idiot that I am, I didn't read things beforehand since I hadn't
heard any buzz about not using dselect, and I know people who are using
unstable happily. So I pointed the ftp upgrad option to unstable,
downloaded everything, tried to install it, and apparently really screwed
things up ba

I had that exact same problem with my first upgrade to libc6 (i've done

re-ran the auto-upgrade script i had, but this time i used
perl_5.004.04-3.deb and not perl_5.004.04-4.deb... (I also had a POSIX
