I assume you desktop system is not powered on 24 h per day.
So you possibly want to install anacron and logrotate.
anacron will make sure that a daily job is run daily --- even if you power
up only for an hour a day.
logrotate will backup and compress your logfiles and remove the old ones

(slogrotate, and so on). My question now is, if this surgery is
