Strange behavior in X

Hi, I'm getting some weird display behavior in X and I need some help. I do a lot of work using virtual consoles. Quite often when I'm in a virtual console, if I press ctrl-alt-f7 to get back to X, my screen goes blank. I try to go back to a virtual console by pressing ctrl-alt-f1 (or f2 - f6)
