I am trying to run kde on a testing machine (debian
testing). Kde is 3.3.1.
I use gdm, because gnome is default. If I try to run
kde (startkde) from terminal in gnome, kde starts. If
I try to run kde from gdm (opting for ke in gdm's
menu) kde does not start (tries to, then hangs a

Okay, I have my system running, and X runs, and xdm runs, and kdm runs and I
can get the KDE environment up. But I have some questions on how to do all of
this automagically.
1) About runlevels, I currently run at level 2, do I just change the value in
the inittab to 5 and be done with it?

Don't mean to be too critical, but ldconfig would not make linux unbootable
unless you had messed around with the location of certain critical dynamic libs.
Did you modify around with /etc/ld.so.conf, or move around any of the libs in
/usr/lib, /lib, or /usr/local/lib ? If so, th
