If you just want to get a single debian package onto a non-debian system,
you can probably use ar. If you do
# ar x whatever.deb
you'll get three files: a format v

Well, simply put, you don't convert your system from one
distribution
I had a similar problem with RedHat. All I want to do is upgrade my
glibc to a stable version. My machine will not run netscape at all nor
applix reliably.
