I've got an Etch box running Samba and sharing out home directories. The
relevant section of smb.conf is this:
[global]
workgroup = ACU
invalid users = root
browseable = No
include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf
[homes]
comment = Home Directories

While I'm at it, any hints on optimizing samba a bit better for speed?
A win95/98/NT machine averages about 1500 kps here.
The w2k machine averages around 2500-3000 kps.
I've done 8000 kps ftp's to the machine before. So just which side is so
grossly inefficient?
And how do i tune that side?

Is it possible to create a samba-user with an empty password? Because if I
try so with smbpasswd the program denies the change.
Edit /etc/samba/smbpasswd and change the user's line from

Hello everybody,
I've got some questions. Hope that somebody can help me with that.

so with smbpasswd the program denies the change.
How can I get a view which users are created on my linux-machine? This would be

Thanks to you, I'm gonna mount it this W.E.

What this country needs is a good five cent microcomputer.
samba is not a print server.
once you set the proper entries in printcap and get lpd to work with them,
you just add links to the printer's spool path in samba's config. its real
easy, getting printing working on the other hand is not, took me a while
to get mine working(i never printed for 3 year

Hi all,
After reading 1/2 ton of doc, I don't have answers.
I'd like to know if its possible to:
* setup 2 printers on my server (one //, the other serial)
and use them remotely from W$, without special trick
to switch from one to the other
* Use them also from a Linux station, without ch

Samba expects your drive to be ext2 rather than vfat.

I have a question about samba and it's capabilities.
I have two systems on a network in my house. One I use as a
"production" server which has my connection to the internet, and then my
play machine. The play machine is a dual boot between linux and win95.
Anyway, I'm in need of more space for
