I managed to get the zip drive recognized in etch by rmmod imm followed by
modprobe imm. I can adjust /etc/fstab but this is strange udev and imm
didn't get this drive started earlier.

PC also has a CD-RW drive (internal ATAPI) and the install lilo.conf
append line was:
append="ramdisk_size=10 lang=en apm=power-off hda=scsi hdb=scsi \

and allowed CD-RW to work using ide-scsi interface??

What I should have added, is that I use the USB port. I have built into
the kernel usb-storage, usb-core, ide-scsi, sg, and I amalso running
hotplug, usbutils, modutils. I have a mount point /zip for the drive, and
here is what happens when I start up the system:

i have scsi 100mb zip drive, the device i use to access it is /dev/sda .. so it
appears
An IDE zip drive acts more like a hard drive than a floppy drive; It
follows the same drive scheme as IDE cdroms or hard drives - e.g.
Primary master drive is /dev/hda, secondary master is /dev/hdc..

OK, I compiled my own 2.2.7 kernel and went through the docu: It
seems, that the module parport_pc was missing and therefore causing
all the trouble...

No, since I use kernel 2.2.5 comming from potato. There is however a
ppa module comming with that kernel, but I can_t just say insmod ppa,
because then I get a device or ressource bussy error.

There is a zip howto. It may require recompiling the kernel to support
these special parallel port devices (sorry, forgot the exact option).

I am using a parallel port version and I can vouch that it does work. The
driver is available from http://www.torgue.net/zip.html. I have also read
reports that the scsi driver works fine but I have experience with it.
