Use XF86Setup, it's MUCH easier. If it's not installed on your system
(can't remember if it's a separate package in 2.1 or not), then you can
find it in dselect under xf86setup or do an apt-get install xf86setup.
I've never had a problem with the config file from this program, and
without seeing
