This dvd is not encrypted, so it is not a libdvdcss missing problem.
$ xine *.VOB
works, but is not quite perfect.

Thanks to being pointed to the link to Marillat's site I have now got
mplayer, though at present I'm getting better results with DVDs using
ogle.

I have added this line to the file /etc/apt/sources.list
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ etch main
and all went fine with installing mplayer and libcss... etc... libdvdread ...
(apt-get update)

that would install on Debian (Sid) without success.

If your goal is to play a sequence of VOB files without any interruption, you could try this:
$ mplayer *.VOB
This works with xine and I'm quite sure it works with mplayer too. Though I'm not sure if that's what you want.
