Hi,
Thanks for one more way do it.
But, now I have upgraded 2.2r5 to 2.4.18 kernel and I
have options to select either of the kernel images.
New Problem :
When booted on 2.2.19 kernel ,This version is on network,I can
do a telnet to this machine from another machine.
But,
When booted on 2.4.18
I'm so embarrassed.
quickly scanned the instructions on STOJICEVIC Edi EXPSIA's email
and saw some steps involving tar.gz files and jumped
to the conclusion that it wasn't using make-kpkg.
Then posted a subset of those instructions.
Oops. sorry.

I just installed a 2.4.18 kernel that I compiled

Default kernel versions for both Potato and Woody are 2.2.x.

release will come with both 2.2.x and 2.4

_You_ shouldn't. You should see "3dfxfb" lines (or whatever your
framebuffer module is called). _I_ see vesafb lines since I'm using
vesafb.

The problem with "ask" is it will only list VGA parameters (that is,
text-only screens, not framebuffer stuff). You have to RTFM first to
know what to enter as the mode
No, I do not see any veasfb lines in dmesg.

Yes, I did add a vga=ask to my lilo.conf. Should I remove it and use
fbset instead?

You might also try to turn off PNP support in your bios and recompile the
kernel without PNP support.
