I've kicked Devfs out of my kernel and everything is working as it
should!

Devfs is obsolete, yes. udev is the replacement.

Yes, exclude it. That is, if it's checked, uncheck it.

In 'make menuconfig', File systems -> Pseudo filesystems -> /dev file
system support (OBSOLETE).
