as you can run the games as a different user, the problem can't be that some
packages are missing. But I got this error myself only for missing
sdl-packages. Here is what I have installed:
ii libsdl-console 1.3-4 console that can be added to any SDL applica
ii libsdl-gfx1.2 2.0
