No, was going to do so later, after getting the system up and running.

- look at your svga card... see how much memory it says
you should have...
add that value to the VideoRam line for that device
in XF86Config
- check the Horizontal/Vertical stuff from your monitor...

I told it 16384, so I'm guessing it is a cascade from the unknown
chipset.

startx usually does not start because:
- wrong X server ( /usr/X11R6/bin/X* )
- wrong modes (
