uid=chris,ou=people,dc
Have you tested that the authentication for PAM is working correctly?
Try logging in using whatever auth you are using for it and check it can
read the entiries it needs. libnss-ldap and pam_ldap have different
config files. Sounds like nss is working correctly (i.e. its showing
both users), but th

I'm still going through the same hassle you are. Let me tell you, it's
not simple at all. webmin-ldap-useradmin helped with some of the setup,
but it was only a small step in the right direction. Right now, I'm
working on a fork of it that should simplify the backend administration.
However, as

Thanks for all your input. But my main question is really this.
I understand that the SID samba has LDAP compiled into it.
But I don't see anywhere where it says that LDAP is compiled into
samba-tng.
Can you confirm either or both of these 'rumors'?

try them both ..they are probably of equal qual
Well, I'm not certain whether I should use Samba-tng or the samba sid
release, which apparently has ldap compiled in.
So, is LDAP built into samba-tng
Whereas sid is the unstable release, what should I be concerned about?

Great! So what am I supposed to do?
I don't see a tng branch in debian's distros. So are you suggesting I
download it from, say, samba?
The main thing is that I need a samba package with LDAP built in.

Sid sounds like it has the answer.
So, just to make sure I'm doing this right. I am going to install the
sid samba package on a woody server. If I temporarily change my
