Michael,
You could set up NAT. Have your Linux box be your server and your '98 box be a
client. A friend of mine has a dialup account and his is setup like that. I
have mine setup with a cable modem. Works like a charm for me.

I do just what you're asking about.
You should use your linux box as the gateway machine.
You could use your windows box as the gateway if you use winroute but it sux
rox. I had files corrupted when I FTP'ed through a winroute gateway.
