Thank you both. I can confirm that this upgrade completely breaks systems. I'm a bit of a wimp, as well as a neophyte, so I bailed out and restored a VM snapshot. Now I understand how the package that was *not* upgraded croaked the system, because the package that *was* upgraded has its SONAM
