Start with:
netstat -lntp | grep 110
to check what process listens on port 110 .

guess for pop3s or imaps ( w/ ssl )

ssl based pop servers either work out of the box..
or needs lots of tweeking on the ( ms windoze ) client end...

Take a look at the 'qpopper' package. Its a POP3 server developed by
Qualcomm (famous for Eudora Light/Pro). I've been using it on my machines
without any problems.
If you feel like building from source, you might check out 3.0b18 on
ftp.qualcomm.com. I'm now using that version with no troubles so
