I tried the installation procedure described by the above link from
Frederik. That did not work. It seemed to have the same problem with
the kernel headers. So I did a complete removal of the headers and
reinstalled them. Then I tried running the module-assis

Sorry for the lack of details. I couldn't find the log file from the
previous install. Anyway I tried installing the nvidia drivers again
by entering the command:
module-assistant auto-install nvidia
I get a warning about the rivafb module and it says there is no rule
to make target kernel-head
