getting in on this thread a bit late, but if you upgrade to 2.4 you need
to restart before you can do the kernel patches, otherwise you'll patch
the 2.2 modules.

you have to correct kernel source in /usr/src/linux it does make a
difference. Then after make install do modprobe NVdriver
otherwise hte driver maybe possible require 2.4.x kernel...
Right now im running the 0.97 nVidia
